Just because the economy may have you down doesn’t mean you have to cancel your birthday plans this year. New York City has a ton of places to go to on the cheap. Birthday Guys and Girls don’t fret because we have some great places to check out. You may even have more fun this year than you did on your last birthday.

If you look good you will feel good. You can buy a new outfit at H&M, Forever 21, or Zara without breaking the bank. Even if you don’t want to buy an entire outfit you can always purchase a new accessory to spruce up an old outfit. Once you pick out your outfit you are ready to hit the town.

Here are a few economically friendly places to check out on your birthday.

If you want a roof top but don’t want to break the bank, check out Tonic East – (411 3rd Avenue at 29th Street). This is not your typical Murray Hill bar; there is a cool dining area with great food and cocktails along with Plasma TVs for those who don’t want to miss the game. With magnificent views of the Chrysler building and the Empire State building you hang out all night with friends and even make new ones on your special day. Another great spot with a roof top in midtown is Sutton Place - 1015 East 2nd Avenue near 5th Street. This is a no hassle place where you can meet friends for dinner and drinks. If you want to hang out on the roof top get there on the earlier side to grab a table because seats fill up fast. They offer specials on any night whether it is Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 5pm to 10pm or $10 pitchers on Saturdays and Sundays. Sutton Place is always a good time.

For those that love Italian food IL Bagato – (192 East 2nd Street between Ave A & B) in the village is fantastic. The food is so fresh you will feel like you’re in your grandma’s kitchen. Make sure to make a reservation before you go. If you have large group you can set up a private party with special menus to choose from. A great spot, where you might even have a celebrity sighting.

Another fun find for dinner is Tortilla Flats – 767 Washington Street, corner of West 12th. This tex-mex joint is the perfect place for a party.  They have different events every night like bingo, trivia nights and there is always music playing.  The portions are large enough to share and the margaritas are delicious.  Tortilla Flats offers different Happy Hours – M-F – 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Saturdays from 1:00 AM – 4:00 AM. Definitely worth checking out.

Village Pour House uptown - 982 Amsterdam Avenue or downtown - 64 3rd Avenue at 11th Street is the perfect place to celebrate.  No matter what you night you go there are always specials and great food for you and your friends to share. From Margarita nights to $5 shots, you are in for a fun time.

Brother Jimmy’s – five locations all around NYC, is a no fuss bar that has everything you want – food, fun, sports, and cheap drinks. You can dress in your favorite pair of jeans or baseball hat and head out to celebrate. If you are a large group and you want to set something up private – call ahead and they will be happy to accommodate you.
Great for groups and tons of fun – order a fish bowl!!!

For a low key birthday party in New York on a nice day if you do not want to go to a bar or a restaurant you can grab your friends and head to central park for the day.  Each of you can either make something or order from the local deli and pack a picnic basket and a blanket and enjoy a relaxing day. Don’t forget some old school games like paddle ball. You might not think your friends will be into it but you will be surprised. Nothing beats a friendly competition.

Some say it is not where you go but who you are with. We agree but if you can find a great place to celebrate on the cheap why not? Meet up with your friends and head out to any of the places that we told you about. New York City is filled with restaurants, stores, comedy clubs, bars and lounges, you will be surprised in this economy there are more deals than you think. Remember you are celebrating your birthday it’s a happy occasion don’t stress.
